Henri Cartier-Bresson
Few other artists resonate as deeply within me as Henri
Cartier-Bresson, a master photographer whose body of work
will forever fascinate me. I had the honor of seeing his
scrapbooks recently and it was interesting to see the
process which led up to the final prints. Images were
composed in his mind then committed to film, the camera
becoming nothing more than a recording device. That he
created a magnificent portfolio of images with a minimum of
exposures and equipment is a testimony to his expertise.
From Henri Cartier-Bresson I learned a great truth: It is
not the camera or lens. It is not the science that makes it
possible. It is the instinct of composition and capturing
the moment. That is the magic. The rest is details.
